Houston CenterThe Houston center is one of the major community hubs in the East Passyunk area. It is home to many organizations and non-profits including: United Communities of Southeast Philadelphia, South Philadelphia Literacy Partnership, and Juntos. In addition to larger programs like the above stated, Southeast Philadelphia is filled with grassroots operations such as English lessons run out of churches or storefronts as well as smaller-scale community improvement projects.

UCSP is one of the largest community organizations in Southeast Philadelphia. Their goal is to provide services that meet the needs of the incredibly diverse inhabitants of Southeast Philly. To that end, they have both youth and adult programs that range from help with homework to help with taxes, as well as English language and literacy support.
Juntos is an immigrant rights organization that seeks to inform and mobilize members on issues of human rights, family rights, and deportation.
PA Migrant Education Services provides additional supports to children of migrant farm and meat packing workers. These families are often recent immigrants and refugees. Migrant Education generally operates after school, weekend, and summer programming.

Community and School Partnerships
In addition to resources available to the entire community, Southwark has forged specific relationships with service providers throughout the Philadelphia area to better provide for its students' diverse needs.
Jewish Family and Children's Services provides peer mediators for students.
Prep Charter High School's students tutor Southwark students. Temple University's pre-student-teachers works with Southwark's ELL population. Valley Green Bank runs book drives for the school. |
